Cisco announced that it would further support a highly secure end-to smart grid communication infrastructure development, to help utility companies and their customers to optimize energy supply and use of smart grid to improve the safety and reliability, and reduce operating expenses.
Cisco Smart Grid ecosystem members include systems integrators, technology providers, electricity and utilities integrators, telecom operators and service providers and sales and so on, they form the intelligent network infrastructure for each element. Cisco will provide smart grid security services and solutions in a uniform manner to ensure the physical security of power systems, digital security and reliability. These solutions take full advantage of Cisco’s leading position in the security field, as well as in the design and build end to end security architecture experience, through a set of professional services to help utility companies meet regulatory compliance requirements, and power grid operations, systems, data and assets to provide critical infrastructure security. Security services, including public utilities regulatory compliance assessment, physical site security vulnerability assessment, network security architecture design, and physical and network security design and deployment.
Cisco is being created based on Internet Protocol (IP) communication standard smart grid eco-system, which will enable the energy industry, as well as corporate and civilian customers both benefit. Smart Grid ecosystem members and Cisco work together to conduct interoperability testing, by businesses and civilian power generation to migrate to IP-based infrastructure to support smart grid and energy management applications. Public utility companies and eco-system members, this initiative will help reduce the multi-vendor intelligent network communications infrastructure solutions, deployment costs and complexity.
